Work at the Muskoka Lakes Museum for Summer 2022 

The Museum is open from Victoria Day Weekend through to Thanksgiving weekend. We are looking for summer students available to help us out from mid-late June through to the end of August. The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday.

Museum Programs and Volunteer Coordinator

Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of the Museum Director the Programs and Volunteer Co-ordinator will undertake the tasks involved in the development of new programs and special events at Muskoka Lakes Museum, for the 2022 Summer season. This will include developing regular events to encourage and entertain visitors in the summer, running educational programs for day-camps and school visits, as well as theme days with related activities throughout the summer. The role will also be involved in recruiting and scheduling volunteers for various positions in the summer including assisting with the front desk and events that will take place. This role will also participate in the daily operation of the Museum including visitor services and programming and become familiar with Museum standards, policies and procedures.

Exhibit Development Assistant

Job Description:

Under the direction and supervision of the Museum Director, with the assistance of the curatorial team, the Exhibit Development Assistant will undertake the tasks involved in the development of new exhibits and displays at Muskoka Lakes Museum, www.mlmuseum.com. The Exhibit Development Assistant will assist with the research, design, text writing, selection of artifacts and support material, construction and evaluation of exhibits and displays. This role will also participate in the daily operation of the Museum including visitor services and programming and become familiar with Museum standards, policies and procedures.

Visitor Services Attendant

Job Description

The Visitor Services Attendant at Muskoka Lakes Museum will be an onsite position at the venue. The employee will be an individual who enjoys interacting with people and who has likely volunteered or had experience in customer or visitor service in their community.

The Visitor Service Attendant will have the opportunity to build on their prior experience in this role as they engage with visitors to the Museum through many of the following activities: welcoming visitors; answering questions about the museum and area tourism; providing health screening and taking contact information as required by Public Health; conducting tours; and providing historical interpretation of museum exhibits and artifacts.

A key component of the Visitor Services Attendant role will be ensuring that COVID-19 protocols and measures are observed to support tourists’ and other visitors’ safe enjoyment of the Museum facility and programming.

The Visitor Services Attendant will also be engaged in community and museum member outreach answering questions by telephone or email and will participate in the delivery of information to the public which will likely include some on-line programming due to COVID-19 protocols.

Collections Assistant

Job Description

The Collections Assistant will catalogue, arrange, describe, and scan collection information and enter it into our collections management database. This will include photographing objects in a professional manner as well as creating condition reports and conservation recommendations. The student will also work with the curator to add a catalogue number to each collection item.
The Collections Assistant will also assist the curator with collections related aspects of exhibitions, loans and public programs. This includes organizing collections lists, updating the database, preparing condition reports, and gathering information for exhibition labels in accordance with the Interpretive Manual. 

These roles are currently tentative pending the confirmation of employment grants. Any eligibility criteria for these grants must be met in order to receive funding for these roles.
